"Women On Top"
Sept 23 -Oct 14, 2005
at
The Women's History Museum
2323 Broadway Street
Downtown San Diego
Opening Reception:
Friday September 23rd - 6-9 pm
The San Diego Women's History Museum and Educational Center presents "Women On
Top" -- a mixed media art exhibition and museum fund raiser. Over 100 artist's
submissions were received and reviewed by the show's curator, Theresa de Mol. From these
submissions, she selected the works of 23 local artists--sixteen women and seven men. I
have two images in this show, which were spawned from my love of watching modern dance. So
I wanted to capture the essence of dance with my camera, and I asked dancer Vanessa Tipon
to be my model for this shoot. My interest was not to take "snap shots" of a
dancer, but to create images which convey the fluidity and the motion within the
dance, and which conveys too the emotion and the spirit of the dance - and of the dancer.

The La Jolla Art Association to premiere it's new gallery
with a month-long exhibition!
Beginning a new stage of growth and development, the La Jolla Art Association will
open The Village Gallery with a month-long showing of artworks by LJAA
members. The exhibition titled "As Time Goes By: The La Jolla Art Association at
87," is a celebration honoring the artists, both then and now, who have been a
part of the organization's long history with the community of La Jolla. Established in
1918, the La Jolla Art Association has survived both depressions and wars and is today a
thriving collective of artists from throughout San Diego County.
The Village Gallery, located at 7932 Ivanhoe Avenue, is just two blocks from
the Association's present gallery site on Girard Avenue. Both La Jolla Art Association
galleries will continue to provide fine art exhibitions from regional artists until June
2005, when the association will move exclusively to its new gallery on Ivanhoe Avenue.
"As Time Goes By: The La Jolla Art Association at 87" continues through
March 6, 2005.
All La Jolla Art Association exhibitions are free and open to the public.

gravity of life.

temptation, surrender.
Lucid Dreams - Awake in sleep, the realization that our dream life is a

WHEN: April 29, 30 & May 1 @ 8:00 PM, and May 2 @ 7:00
PM
Patricia Rincon Dance Collective and Steven Churchill will perform
"RushStop," a multi-media contemporary dance performance exploring our society's
preoccupation with the need to keep pace. With the presence of an hourglass reminding
audiences of how simple the passing of time can be, Rincon's collaboration with Churchill
points out how society's need to occasionally "zen out" becomes just another
datebook entry in our dayplanners. With the sound score produced by Swiss composer Fritz
Houser, "RushStop" is San Diego's first collaboration of computer animation
visual imagery with contemporary dance. A spellbinding performance close to the hearts of
many 21st century audiences.
The premiere performance on February 20th at Mandeville
Auditorium UCSD sold out (750 seats).
